Simple ways to reduce back pain for students:
Backpack
- Use BOTH backpack straps; avoid purchasing bags that go over one shoulder
- Limit bag weight to 10-20% of your body weight
- Carry only the books you will need
Proper Lifting: Students often lift heavy objects when moving in or out of their rooms. Do not lift objects that are too heavy for you. It is not worth it. If you attempt to lift something, keep your back straight up and down, head up, and lift with your knees. Keep the object close to you, don’t stoop over to lift. Tighten your stomach muscles to keep your back in balance.
Proper Sitting: It’s no surprise that college students sit at workstations almost everyday. So, it is important to have a proper body posture. Use the image as a guide.
